Flappy Bird and its shitty copies

Flappy Bird is a Mobile game made by one developer in a few days, it breaks all download records and does a lot of money. Lucky Guy and he deserves it.

But same as with Angry Birds or Cut the rope an army of clone copies arrive behind, to get a piece of the cake. Calling their games „tribute’s“.

They aren’t a „tribute“ or how ever you phrase it. It is an attempt to get at least a small portion of the success – finical success. Such success stories, like flappy bird, are a double bladed sword. On one side the game loving but insecure developer get’s motivation and an idol. On the other side we have a bunch of guys just trying to make some money by copying popular titles, flooding the game market with crap copy attempts, or „tributes“.

This creates a layer of shit in the App Store, through this layer every unique self crafted title has to break through and it becomes more and more impossible because so many people are „tributing“.

Sleeplessness

I just can’t sleep. even due I was actually doing sport today, some jogging…

Project wise I didn’t achieved much today, craving around on social platforms where we (my girlfriend and me) made a good bunch of new followers..

But they may would had have appeared without my influence anyways. So I blame myself for not having made enough progress today. And on the other hand I’m angry on myself that I can’t give myself a break. It’s just one of these days I guess.

It’s 2:39 AM and I really tried to find rest but I can’t, my head is spinning. And I jump on my thoughts like a hungry wolf on a sheep.

Sometimes I miss the mental balance I had when I was a super fit, motivated and young brick layer. Working physically made one so tired that thoughts would not get enough energy to sustain themselves.

Maybe I just will start working out more often again. I have to discipline myself and observe more carefully when I fall in this poisonous spiral of checking out all the social media channels over and over again, it is also a purely egocentric behavior.

Amanita Muscaria (flying agaric) a.k.a #SuperMario Mushroom is the currency in ShaCat. This fungus is wrongly associated with being deadly poisonous. In fact it isn’t, It’s close cousins are the deadly one’s and killed people which mixed them up. The Amanita Muscaria is a deliriant and was used for ritualistic purpose and consumed by berserkers before they went to a battle in order to boost their recklessness.

Investing into building a Market Presence

Today I’ll start investing some money in the online presentation (amount of likes) of the Sha Cat Facebook Page and the young Youtube Channel.

Consistent Presentation and in the World Wide Web

The cat has made a big leap in „cuteness“, I managed to make her face much rounder and cleaner. This will be the final version of her I’m pretty happy how she looks now.

I aligned all Marketing Channels now to represent „Sha Cat“ only, leaving my first game project „The Sha Man“ back and giving the stage to the Cat.

I don’t have websites so far, I keep on using Facebook pages for all my products. For the first app back then I used Facebook Marketing (ads), which I will not do this time. Since you get a lot of likes but these „people“ do not really interact with the page content, so I have my doubts about their real existence.

I’m looking forward for a lot real people.

Sha Cat – Name registered on iTunes

Just protected the app name of my next #game! Sha cat!
From this point on you get 180 days to deliver your binary file (your game file) to Apple.
If you don’t deliver the binary within this time frame you lose the app name and others can use it but for you the name opportunity is gone. I plan to release the app around April 2014 so there is no real pressure on me through this limitation.

So after a short celebration break the last weekend, I’m back on track and I’m painting for the last 9 hours.
I figured that 70% of my time spend is on the visual part of my game project -> painting and animating or designing the UI. And only 30% I can spend on actual coding. Here some work in progress for level 2 and its creatures.
