I am following this one since a while and he just handed in his game to steam.
And now he requires your vote to reach the green light state.

His game stands out with a solid core gameplay as well as graphics and effects that serve it. It’s a blast to look at and is fun to play.

Your game theme makes all the difference

Advertisers pay more to appear in games which audience is for them more relevant, more likely to join their game.
I experience a bitter demonstration of that right now and here are my two extrem cases.

Weekly Admob banner numbers:

As you see creepy has around 13x times more impressions by players, is generally played more and longer.
But it only made $1.28 and Brofist Legend $4.01.

If Creepy would have the rpm of Brofist it would have made 51,40 this week.

I wonder if there is any chance to increase the rpm of a game retroactive.
But I am afraid its just depending on your theme and keywords.

But overall I am simply happy that we have that extra monetization channel now specially since Android games had no such option before. Its not gigantic but still noticeable and helps me definitely paying my bills. So thanks game salad for adding it.

My new Game launched: Finger Dungeon

My new little game Finger Dungeon went live! I loved working on this and I hope you feel that playing it.

It’s free and work on your mobile phone ( iOS, Google Play and Amazon)

Finger Dungeon Loop 480

Finger Dungeon is a one-touch game and your job is to hold your finger on the screen as long as you can.
Make your way through the currently 14 levels of the finger labyrinth.

As you reach new levels, new tiles and creatures will appear in the maze, so be careful and don’t look back.

How to play:
1. Keep your finger on the screen!
2. Do NOT touch the lava!
3. Collect the coins!
4. Reach the goal line to win!

Advanced Tips:
1. Levers open doors, so no need to risk getting hurt.
2. Avoid the fire projectiles of the cannons.
3. Use the cannon projectiles to destroy the finger-eating monsters.
4. There are shortcuts which you can use between unconnected lava tiles by moving carefully and quickly between their edges.

All I can do now is wish you good luck,
David Zobrist

PS: If this game takes off I will happily add more levels on a regular basis.

Apple allowing to Ad-block within Apps

Apple just decided to quit their own Banner Advertising Service called iAD.
At the same moment allowing Ad-blocking apps to appear in the iTunes store.

Of course that lead to a lot of conversation specially between Indie game developers.
And the question if a free Ad monetised app is still a viable way to go.
A strong side of more established indies kind of seem to like the idea of going back to premium games, pay for the game upfront and no further purchases within the app.
Which I think to be illusive, a pay wall I see as a bad thing specially for us indies.
It will work if you get your premium game featured or already have thousands of waiting fans, but how many of us can count on that?

Of course Games can still be free and sell in-apps just as clash of clans or candy crush do without any additional advertising. But these in-app purchase sales are much less likely to happen for us indies too, specially consumables.
In an indie game you mostly do not have that server structure keeping all the players account data saved, there for buying something consumable that can not be re-gained in case of losing the mobile phone or just mistakenly deleting the app will be not a good selling point for the player.

Ads are enabling the small man to make a living of this craft as it lowered the wall to test out an indie game for a consumer. Allowing to block ads might be nice for apple and the consumer but does hurt the flexibility and opportunity to try out smaller alternative things as an indie developer.

On the other hand you could ad block on google play since „ever“ and my main ad revenue always came from google play. So the impact might not be to much of a big deal at all.
